Entry interview?!@
Did you know that some of the preschools in our area require an entrance interview? Like a college entrance interview? Are you kidding me?? They need you to bring your child in to "meet them and see if they are good fit". What the heck does that mean? Are we going to have to sit there and tell them about WHY they need to take our child into their school? I find myself rattling off the list of the reasons why Payton would be a "good fit" for preschool.
1. She's incredibly cute.
2. She knows her colors and numbers. And she can talk in Spanish!
3. Did we mention she's so cute, like a carbon copy of Dora?
4. After the five months it wil take her to get used to the school, she may warm up enough to say hi and bye to you.
5. She loves books, music, cutting, painting... all the good stuff.
Did I also mention that she's not potty trained? So... she can't go to 99.9% of the schools unless she is potty trained. Sigh. We are looking at a couple different schools close to the house. One is a parent participation preschool where you need to work one day a week in the classroom, and attend three parenting classes in the evening a month. The cool thing is that it is significantly less expensive if you do it that way. Jon is looking at cutting down his work hours to 32 hours a week next year, and could adjust my full contract to potentially have one day a week at home. Does anyone have a million dollar lottery ticket to help up pay for preschool and day care? I have three girls at work who are also enrolling their kids, so we might try and come up with some kind of carpooling option to help everyone out.
Other than that, we are all doing well. You should all be impressed with my husband who's been getting up at 4:30-5 am to go to the gym three times a week. He's quite the super star. If you want to go to a fun egg hunt in March, he's your man. He's started planning them already.
Hope you are staying warm and dry.

Raindrops Keep Falling
Why is it that I lived in New York for 22 years of my life, but have spent 7 years in California and I am cold when it's 50 degrees outside? This rain is killing me! We can't go outside, my students go crazy, and I find myself longing for the 100 degree heat of the summer that we start complaining about as soon as it starts. Don't get me wrong- I do not miss the snow AT ALL (sorry all you New Yorkers and Montana folk), and I know I shouldn't complain about rain... I just miss the sun.
On a different note, I am home today with the kiddos, and thought it might be fun to try and break Sam of his pacificer and swaddling habits. I don't know what I was thinking. Sam sleeps all night long being swaddled, but continues to get out of it around 4 am these past few weeks. Being the expert swaddler I am, I go back in his room and wrap in back up, and give him the pacifier so he can settle back to sleep. For whatever reason, the sweet little boy never needs a pacifier when he goes to sleep for the night. Strange, huh? As always, it works like a charm and he goes back to sleep until 7 am. I guess I have been annoyed with getting up to rewrap the little burrito, and wanted to see what would happen if I didn't do it. Well- he cries and cries and cries. I did it for two naps today, and he went down fine with pacificer in his mouth but freaked out when it fell out. He just kept crying! Bless all of you that had to listen to your kids cry it out at night. It just kills your nerves. He's so exhausted that I didn't do it again, and he's sleeping now. Wrapped up tight, paci in his mouth. Tomorrow's another day, I guess. (and Jon's home with them!)

Experiment
Jon's so good at taking video of the kids- I wanted to see how easy it would be to post them as we would love to share more of them. Payton typically does not like to be on the camera for any length of time before she asks to see what is on the screen. The clip is only 35 seconds long, and shows just how cute she can be (pending the next tantrum!)
Because Lani made us do it
Darn Lani. She spent the night with us last night, and somehow managed to convince that we should have a blog to keep everyone in our life better updated about our day to day lives. Apparently, I can't stand up to peer pressure because ever since she left an hour ago I've been messing around on the computer while Jon is dancing around the house with Payton, and Sam is napping. We had talked about starting a blog a long time ago when Payton was little, but here we are almost three years later without one! So, we'll give it a try. Given that I can barely remember to brush my teeth twice a day, this should be interesting!
